WAHM life – a little of everything

Just my views of the world, work, my family, food, drink, and all things life

New site: Resources for Work at Home Moms November 20, 2008

I’ve found another place to network with WAHMS – Moms United in Business.  Yes, this one is strictly for the wahms, sorry WAHDs.   Support, marketing ideas, humor, and other wahms trying to balace the family and business schedules while trying to remain sane.   There are plenty of advertising opportunities to be found and happily little to no spam scattered about.  Another plus to the community is the number of resources to be found.  As if MUIB wasn’t enough on its own, a separate site full of resources has been launched – and they’re celebrating!

Enter the Holiday Giveaway Extravaganza, sponsored by Moms United in Business LLC, http://www.momsunitedinbusiness.com celebrating the launch of Resources for Work at Home Moms, http://resourcesforworkathomemoms.com! MommyFest 08 rocked~! May 16, 2008

I had a ball and loved learning about you ladies!  I’ll be back to see you again, count on it!

5 things about this mom May 14, 2008

This is another MommyFest meme and the posts I’ve read so far are a riot!

I’ll keep this one short & sweet.

1) I’m addicted to coffee.  If I only have two cups in a day, my family worries that something is wrong with me.

2) I sleep maybe 5 hours a night on a good night.

3) My inner child is strong and I let her out to play fairly often.

4) I’m a gaming (PS3), sci-fi,  and anime freak.  Seriously.  I have to get my fix of at least one every week.  It keeps my other inner child happy.

5) I’m kind of a hermit, but hubster says I’m the most sociable hermit he’s ever heard of.

MommyFest 08 has started! May 12, 2008

What a great way to kick off the week! K, here is a little about me.

I am married to a sweetie of a man, mom to 2 great kids, slave to a couple of big dogs, a grad student (class of 09), and wahm. I’ve worked pretty much in retail & hospitality offline, except for a move into educational support. My time as a tutor helped push me in the right direction, while my last hospitality job nearly put me under.

I spent an entire summer working the 3pm-11pm or midnight shift, and my days generally started at 6:30 am when I’d get up to get my daughter and myself ready for school. Yes, I had classes from 8-noon, had a 3 hour break for studying and stress relief, then went to work. My daughter was 4 at the time and I rarely saw her. It was killing me. One evening I had a disagreement with my boss and decided that was that. I signed on for a work-study as a reading tutor and have been a tutor ever since.

My first official wah job was as a tutor, then I started as a virtual assistant. It brought in ok money, but the freedom in my schedule to spend time with DD and my then boyfriend and his son (hubby & my SS) was awesome. Finding a company to tutor with helped bring in more money, as did opening an onilne store.

But this post isn’t supposed to be about me, really. It’s about   MommyFest’s blog party. Join us! Meet other moms – working moms, stay at home moms, younger, older, and everything in between. We all have different stories to share. We won’t bite!

And, if meeting other people wasn’t enough incentive, there are prizes! So, come on over!

Other than paying bills on this Sunday May 4, 2008

we had a Wii bowling tournament.  I came in second points-wise, but bowled horribly.  Then we took the Wii Age challenge and am, um, 65.  It’s ok cause hubby was 63.  Well, not ok, but at least we were close in age.  DD was 39.  I’m so out of practice!

5th Annual Mommy Fest – wanna join me? May 1, 2008

Like I’ve mentioned before, I work, attend class, etc., all from my home office. It can get a little lonely without coworkers nearby, so I pop onto some of my favorite sites when I’m on break and sometimes just because. I ran across a post that caught my attention. How does an online convention of moms sound? To the single peeps and dads out there, probably a little scary or even bleah. To a mom, especially one lie me that has a crazy schedule, I think it’s pretty neat.

MommyFest is in its 5th year and I’ve heard nothing but positive things about it in the past. This year I’ll be taking part – as an exhibitor (go Shaklee!) and a participant.

Even though it’s online, MommyFest will be like any other convention – exhibits, workshops, giveaways, discounts, games, and most importantly, it will celebrate motherhood. There will be a blog party this year, too, and I’ll be right in the middle of it.

Now I haven’t decided what specials I’ll run or what all of my giveaways will be, but planning is part of the fun.

I went through a windshield in 1986 when an idiot decided to not yield the right of way. I spent 2 days blindfolded after glass was removed from both eyes and my doc beelives the migraines I suffer are a result of the head trauma.

I appeared in a series of instructional videos using the alias Venicia Lakes.  I retired in 2001 when I became engaged.

Tee hee. Guess which is which!
